Tíz egymásnak ismeretlen ember érkezik a Néger-szigetre, Devon partjaihoz. Mint kiderül, a házigazda nem tartózkodik otthon, sőt senki sem ismeri őt személyesen. Amikor a vendégek vacsorához asztalhoz ülnek, egy távoli gramofonból egy ismeretlen hang szólal meg és a vendégek mindegyikét gyilkosság elkövetésével vádolja meg. Röviddel ezután a vendégek egyesével meghalnak, míg már csak ketten maradnak.
